Having participated in the Gay Games in Vancouver and NYC, I am feeling happy for (and a bit envious of) those nearly 10,000 LGBTQ athletes gathered in Germany this weekend. I predict this will be an affirming experience for most of them, helping them let go of some of the shame they felt growing up queer in a straight society. Cologne is a friendly and beautiful city, a perfect place for the Gay Games, and it is likely to be affected as much by the festival as the athletes will be.

Gay Games 2010 open in Cologne
