Given Justice Kennedy wrote the majority opinion in three landmark LGBT rights cases, I believe that Adam Liptak is right. These cases include: Lawrence vs. Texas, Romer vs. Evans, and United States vs. Windsor (DOMA). I am sure that Ronald Reagan had no idea this Kennedy would play such a pivotal role in advancing gay rights, but given all the suffering (lack of AIDS research and funding) and discrimination that my community experienced during the Reagan administration, he owed us this.
