I was debating Maggie Gallagher (of the National Organization for Marriage) last night at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, the state where gay couples are formally discriminated against the most. Maggie asked the crowd who backed marriage equality. Almost every hand in the room went up. We were standing above the crypt of Robert E. Lee.
