One of the founding fathers of the conservative movement explains why he does not want everyone voting. That tradition carries on today...
Since before the French Revolution, there has been strong conservative resistance to the idea of one person, one vote. Many conservatives in the 18th and 19th centuries believed that voting (and education) should be restricted to men who owned property, not everyone in society. This patriarchal (white straight male) view is embodied by modern day conservatives like Gov. Rick Scott, Gov. John Kasich, and former Senator Rick Santorum, not to mention Brian Brown of the National Organization for Marriage. In short, they don't trust the masses and feel that they know best.
