One of the reasons I have always supported Barack Obama is that I want my "nephew" (a young man that I have been a mentor to for almost 17 years, since he was 5-years-old) to live in an America where...
...everyone has the opportunity to succeed and live a good middle class life or more
...all people are treated equally -- as promised in the U.S. Constitution -- including women, the LGBT, and people of color
...he can marry the man he loves (yes, he is gay and has been "out" since he was 13)
...all people have health insurance and can not be discriminated against by greedy insurance companies
...stewardship of the environment is guided by science, not Fox News hyperbole
...education is highly regarded and access is available to all qualified student regardless of their means
...women have control over their own bodies, including the choice of birth control and abortion
...banks and other financial institutions are regulated so they don't crash the economy like they did in 2008, 1987, and 1929
...judges who believe in a fair and just society, do not rule only via narrow legal and religious fundamentalism
..we only go to war as a last resort and if we do, everyone in society shares the sacrifice of war
...our president is an honest, wise, integrity-filled man or woman, not an scheming opportunist who will say anything to win
...we see and value everyone, the uber achievers, the poor, and everyone in between
...we care about the next generation, check our ego needs, and leave the country in better shape than we found it
...we keep progressing as a country, looking forward -- informed by the past but keep pushing ahead to create a "more perfect union."
This is the America I envision for Jason and my fellow citizens. President Obama has accomplished so much in four years (even with an ideologically-intransigent Tea Party-controlled House of Representatives these past two years), and promises to do much much more. And this is why I proudly vote for Barack Obama!
