To all my blog readers,
Please sign this petition, http://www.change.org/petitions/protect-youth-from-being-forced-into-ex-gay-therapy-sb1172 , calling on the Californian Assembly to pass SB1172, which would be the first proposed law of its kind in the nation.
SB1172, protects lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender minors from the emotionally harmful discriminatory practice of “reparative therapy" or "ex-gay therapy." This form of abuse—in which therapists try to change someone’s sexual orientation—is not medically supported, holds no scientific authenticity, and leads to devastating problems, including anxiety, depression, feelings of worthlessness, self-destructive behavior, and even suicide.
This bill has already passed the California State Senate, and will be voted on by the Assembly in a few weeks and then on to Governor Brown’s desk. We think that there is a good chance the Governor will sign it if he receives positive support for this ground-breaking law. Importantly, if this ban on reparative therapy passes in California, similar bills are likely to be introduced across the country.
Let's make the world better for LGBTQ youth; they don't need fixing or repairing!
Sign this petition and tell your friends to do the same! (You don't have to be a California resident to participate -- everyone can encourage California's leaders to do the right thing.) Thanks, Joe
