I have no idea who or what will replace Syria's President Assad, but this video shows people will risk their lives for the promise of change...
In 2001, my brother and I toured most of the Syrian cities that are now ravished by war. What we witnessed then was a police state reminiscent of the Eastern Bloc countries I visited in the 1980s, before the Wall came down. Like in East Germany of yore, Syria has a massive internal security force that keeps 13% of the population in power, the Alawite tribe. Last year, Syrians demonstrated peacefully and were shot by government forces; this year they have guns and pitchforks. One way or another, this government is going to change.
