AZ lawmakers on the verge of passing a law that legalizes discrimination against LGBT based on "sincerely held religious beliefs." Pro-segregationists made the argument in the 1950s

From Joe.My.God

By a vote of 17-13, yesterday afternoon the Arizona Senate approved a bill that would legalize anti-gay discrimination on the basis of "sincerely held religious beliefs."
The vote along party lines, with Republicans in the majority, came after supporters defeated an attempt to extend existing employment laws that bar discrimination based on religion and race to also include sexual orientation. Sen. Steve Yarbrough, R-Chandler, said that's a separate issue from what he is trying to do. But Sen. Steve Gallardo, D-Phoenix, said that's precisely the issue. "The bill opens the door for discrimination against gays and lesbians," he said. Yarbrough, however, said foes of SB 1062 are twisting what his legislation says. "This bill is not about discrimination," he said. "It's about preventing discrimination against people who are clearly living out their faith."
The Arizona House, where Republicans outnumber Democrats by 36-24, will debate the bill this afternoon.

These young, brave WA State Catholics are revolting against their parochial high school's policy of firing gay teachers who marry. And now another teacher just got engaged...

Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Washington has been in the news — a lot — after firing beloved Vice Principal Mark Zmuda last month for getting married to a man. Students walked out of the school en masse and have been protesting, writing letters, organizing, and holding meetings.

And just today, this lesbian teacher at the school announced she is engaged to her partner. It will be interesting to see what this Catholic school does now.

Fox News and Senator Marco Rubio are against ENDA, a federal law that would prohibit job discrimination against gay people. They claim it limits "religious freedom."

And a spokesman for Senator Marco Rubio:
"He believes people’s qualifications, performance and honesty are the most important qualities by which they should be judged in the workplace. If you’re a good worker, that’s all that should matter. This legislation goes far beyond protecting workers from discrimination based on sexual orientation, and he is currently studying what kinds of burdens it could impose on small businesses, frivolous lawsuits that could result, and ensuring that religious freedoms under the First Amendment are protected."
