Quote of the day, on Putin and Benghazi
Today, I kept being gobsmacked – smack, smack, smack, smack, smacked in the gob. By which I mean Rumsfeld – yes Rumsfeld! – and Cheney and Butters – yes, Butters! – are actually out there in public condemning president Obama for “weakness”. In an inspired moment of total lunacy, Butters even blamed Putin’s Crimea bullying on Benghazi! I know we all have to pretend that they have every right to speak their minds (and, of course, they do) – but really. The men responsible for the collapse of America’s military deterrent by losing two strategically catastrophic wars of choice actually have the gall to get up there and accuse Obama of weakness! The men who let Osama bin Laden get away; the men whose Putinesque derangement led to the total disintegration of Iraq; the men who presided over Iran’s achievement of nuclear infrastructure; the men who made a laughing stock out of US intelligence; the men who lost Afghanistan; the men who bankrupted the country by war and spending … these men now claim strategic prescience, manly foresight and a record of a “strong” America? There are times when the gob smacks itself.-- Andrew Sullivan

This is what one charismatic & talented gay man can do in the South. Watch the reaction of MIzzou to Michael Sam's return
This video should scare the GOP and the anti-gay forces like NOM and the Family Research Council: your brand of anti-gay rhetoric and hate is going out of style -- and fast.
America is finally learning to love it LGBT children. We have a long way to go, but, as this video shows, the tide has turned.

It's reported that the GOP is starting to take on some of its most homophobic leaders. Does it have the guts to do this?
From the Washington Blade:
Republican National Committee chair Reince Preibus has asked the Michigan Republican who has taken fire from members of his own party for anti-gay remarks to resign his position from the RNC.
Sean Spicer, an RNC spokesperson, tweeted on the second day of the RNC winter meeting in D.C. that Preibus as well as Michigan Republican Chair Bobby Schostak asked for the resignation of RNC committee member Dave Agema.

Quote of the day on the character of Chris Christie
Perhaps it is no big surprise to discover that governor Chris Christie is a vindictive, petty egomaniac contemptuous of the people he serves. But it’s hard to avoid that conclusion when you’ve pored over the new tranche of emails that show how he and his staff made life miserable for a large number of New Jerseyans – and, yes, trapped unnecessarily in traffic is misery, even when you have the gorgeous scenery of the George Washington Bridge to absorb.
...He has been revealed as a deeply petty man, willing to sacrifice the public good to pursue narrow political vendettas – not exactly a qualification for a president. But he has also repeatedly denied all of this. Is he a bully? Or a liar? Or both?--Andrew Sullivan

Watch these two teenage DREAMers ask John Boehner, at his diner, to bring the immigration bill to the House floor. And get brushed off
Why not invite these kids to join for breakfast and discuss this matter? Because that would inflame the immigration-hating, xenophobic GOP base.

Frank Bruni talks about HRC's new international advocacy initiative largely funded by conservative, hedge fund billionaire Paul Singer, who has a gay son
Read Frank's piece in the NYTimes about this latest international initiative to spread the gay rights movement throughout the world. Frank Bruni writes this about Paul Singer:
In this case, he was announcing a new project to be funded, at least at the outset, by him and other conservative donors but to be run by the Human Rights Campaign, an L.G.B.T. advocacy group in Washington, which is much more closely affiliated with Democrats. The initiative will be dedicated to fighting the victimization of gays and lesbians internationally. But it will also show that there are Republicans — not a majority, but an increasingly impassioned minority — who are intent on progress and justice for L.G.B.T. people.I welcome the money and support of Republicans for in the struggle for LGBT equality as long as they don't try to hijack our movement and impose their Ayn Rand-ian values of selfishness and cold-heartedness on us.

Fox News and Senator Marco Rubio are against ENDA, a federal law that would prohibit job discrimination against gay people. They claim it limits "religious freedom."
And a spokesman for Senator Marco Rubio:
"He believes people’s qualifications, performance and honesty are the most important qualities by which they should be judged in the workplace. If you’re a good worker, that’s all that should matter. This legislation goes far beyond protecting workers from discrimination based on sexual orientation, and he is currently studying what kinds of burdens it could impose on small businesses, frivolous lawsuits that could result, and ensuring that religious freedoms under the First Amendment are protected."

Sandra Day O'Connor marries a gay couple at the Supreme Court. She is a rare breed of Republican: a moderate one!
From The New Civil Rights Movement:
Retired Associate Justice Sandra Day O’Connor today married a same-sex couple in the U.S. Supreme Court. O’Connor, the first woman appointed to the nation’s highest court, married a couple together for 36 years, Jeffrey Trammell and Stuart Serkin.
Trammell is a rector (academic, not religious, leader) at The College of William & Mary in Virginia, where the former justice was chancellor. O’Connor was appointed to the Court by President Ronald Reagan.
“The ceremony took place in the lawyer’s lounge of the court, according to court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg,” Bloombergreports. “That is just off the courtroom where the sitting justices delivered a pair of 5-4 decisions in June that stopped short of legalizing gay marriage across the country yet struck down a federal law barring benefits for spouses in same-sex marriages.”
