Appreciating male beauty

86-year-old gymnast shows she still has the right stuff

Zen thought of the day

"I wish to live deliberately."

- Thoreau

Fiona Apple writes a high schooler about the "goodness" of love in whatever form, and touches a life

In 2000, Fiona wrote a sixteen-year-old kid, who was starting a gay-straight alliance in his high school, these beautiful and reassuring words:

“If a good boy loves a good girl, good. If a good boy loves another good boy, good. And if a good girl loves the goodness in good boys and good girls, then all you have is more goodness, and goodness has nothing to do with sexual orientation.”

That teenager is a grown man who was deeply touched by this act of kindness and care. Full article. And Fiona's music today has never been better.

We need to support Tammy Baldwin. A lawmaker from Wisconsin who is running for U.S. Senate and would be the first openly gay person there

Read the NYTimes interview with her. Smart, articulate, progressive, and openly lesbian.

Send her $10 or more. Every bit helps.

Great quote of the day

"Science can give us knowledge, but it cannot give us wisdom. Nor can religion, until it puts aside nonsense and distraction and becomes itself again,"

A tale out of "Dancer from the Dance": prominent gay NY therapist (& clubber) takes his life as he fears middle age

Read today's New York Times article about Bob Bergeron who seemingly had it all, but resisted growing older, watching his looks, and missing all the adulation. Sadly and ironically, he was about to publish a book on growing older as a gay man.
